Welcome To My Piano Studio

I am currently looking for students of varying ages and levels. I prefer students to begin at age eight or older, but am willing to teach at a younger age if the student can sit still for a time and follow directions. I teach a variety of students ranging from beginners, to those who are retired, and want expand their repertoire.

I teach weekly lessons at $25 for a half hour, $40 for 45 minutes, and $50 for an hour lesson.

In the future I may consider traveling to a student's home, but at this time I am only teaching out of my home.

My Study and Teaching Experience:

I began taking lessons at age eight, and continued taking lessons until age twenty at the college level. I taught lessons as a student teacher in high school and college, under the direction of my piano teachers. I also took several piano pedagogy classes. I have taught for nine years as an independent private piano teacher.

I studied with Judy Baker for most of my years taking piano lessons. She was (and still is) a member of the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA). As a member teachers can encourage students to enter local competitions. Students also have the opportunity to learn from professional pianists, who adjudicate and work directly with the student at the piano afterwards.

I was able to play for and benefit from the teachings of several professional pianists. I also participated in many local competitions. I placed first or within the top five several times.

At Brigham Young University-Idaho I studied piano for two years as a piano performance major.

If you would like more information about my musical background, then please ask.

My Goal As A Teacher:

Learning how to play a musical instrument is very much like learning a new language. It takes a bit of work, but the ability to communicate through music is truly a wonderful thing. It is my goal to help instill a love for music in my students.

How I Teach:

I mostly teach out of the basic method books, depending on the student's age and skill level, with some added technique.
